  • UPDATED - Extra-curricular Clinical Shadowing is still discontinued, at this time (10/14 WeeklyWonders announced shadowing discontinued under COVID-19): The learner re-entry committee recently met to discuss the ability to accommodate clinical shadowing or outside learners and due to COVID-19 space limitations, it was determined that this is not something the medical center can accommodate at this time.
    • The committee will consider requests for exemptions via department-level request: Departments can the following (submit c/o Medical Student Services) information to request an exception. Individual requests for shadowing are not considered, at this time; students should reach out to departments to facilitate the exemption request.
      • Specific nature of the request and timeframe
      • Approval from sponsoring department to ensure in compliance with space occupancy expectations
      • Impact on other learners in that environment
      • Ability to meet COVID-19 guidelines to ensure student, patient and faculty/staff safety (PPE, physical distancing, avoidance of COVID-19 patients or PUI)

• Derek Chauvin Trial & Verdict: We will all have unique needs as we navigate the potential and cumulative impact of this moment. What follows are some University opportunities for learning, community support, and space for healing:
  • In solidarity with the BIPOC community, the Student Government Association (SGA) has approved our request to raise the Black Lives Matter flag in front of the Davis Center this week, per the SGA’s flag protocol.
  • Beginning Friday, the Interfaith Center will host an interactive art installation on the fourth floor of the Davis Center inviting people to share their hopes and concerns for racial justice in this moment.
  • Counseling support is available for all students via Counseling and Psychiatry Services (CAPS) and through the identity centers on campus.
  • Community gatherings to learn, be together, and process are being developed by campus partners, including the Center for Cultural Pluralism and Identity Centers.
• UVM COVID-19 Student Testing Protocol: All students who are on-campus/in-person (UVMMC and/or UVM-VT) and/or who live in Burlington, South Burlington or Winooski and who do not have a testing exemption must engage in UVM COVID-19 surveillance testing at the Davis Center COVID-19 testing center (Green & Gold Promise;  verify your permanent address reflects your real location in myUVM).
  • Schedule Your Test with CoVerified: We all hate waiting in lines. Fortunately, there’s an app for that. The best way people can help us keep lines shorter is by making an appointment via the CoVerified app before showing up.
  • Parking for COVID-19 Testing: Additional parking is available for students driving to the Davis Center—you may park in the Jeffords lot with pay-by-cell payment between 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • Vermont Travel Guidelines: All students must still continue to adhere to state and local health and safety guidelines, including travel and quarantine requirements. If you enter a travel-mandated quarantine and you are not experiencing any symptoms, you can secure your day-seven test via the Davis Center clinic (counts as a UVM surveillance test, too!).
  • Vaccine Information for the UVM Community: A new web page, Vaccine Information for the UVM Community, provides guidance on UVM policies during this time when some in our community are vaccinated but many still are not. This page will be updated as more vaccine information becomes available.
    • Updated Guidelines For Fully Vaccinated Medical Students: The University has reviewed the current COVID-19 guidelines and has approved the following for vaccinated medical students...
  • UPDATED - Exemption Requests: If you are away and will therefore miss the 7-9 day testing window, you must submit a temporary exemption request. If you fall under "required to test" guidelines and still feel you should be exempt, please include extenuating circumstance in your exemption request form to help expedite processing.
    • One request can cover multiple weeks! Exemption should end the day you plan to return to campus.
    • You must use your netID@uvm.edu email address/Outlook account to enter the UVM portal and sign-into the request tool (UVM Credentials); this might require you to log out of your MED Outlook or open a guest window/profile in Chrome to use a browser without your remembered MED credentials.
    • You cannot step onto VT/UVMMC campus(es) during an exemption window. However, an exemption will not block you from testing at the Davis Center. 
    • Approved exemptions include:
      • Temporary Exemption (set personalized start & end date) - make sure to submit one if/when you will not be able to complete your day-seven surveillance test: 
        • "I am enrolled in clinical rotations occurring outside of Chittenden County and do not live in Burlington, Winooski, or South Burlington. I will not physically visit the UVM or UVM Medical Center campus(es)."
        • "I will miss testing due to essential travel or extenuating circumstances: (briefly describe circumstances)"
        • "I am not stepping onto the UVM-VT and/or the UVMMC campus(es), and I am not living, meeting or socializing with any student, faculty or staff who is going to either campus(es) during this exemption period."
      • Exemption from 2nd Weekly Testing for fully vaccinated students ("through end of semester" option; students must continue to test every seven days): "I’ve completed a full COVID-19 Vaccination cycle (2 doses and 2+ weeks out from second dose), and I am requesting exemption from second weekly testing. I will continue to test every seven days, per University COVID-19 testing protocols."

THIS WEEK:

• DEADLINE - 2021 NHSC Loan Repayment Programs: 05/06 application deadline.
  • The NHSC Loan Repayment Program (NHSC LRP) awards up to $50,000 in exchange for a two-year commitment to provide primary medical, dental or mental/behavioral health care at approved sites in high-need, underserved areas.
  • The NHSC Substance Use Disorder Workforce Loan Repayment Program (NHSC SUD Workforce LRP) provides up to $75,000 in exchange for a three-year commitment to health care professionals who provide substance use disorder (SUD) treatment services.
  • Providers in rural communities may apply to the NHSC Rural Community Loan Repayment Program (NHSC Rural Community LRP), which awards up to $100,000 for three years of service.
