    • THIS WEEK - Important Message from Dean Page and Dean Zehle - GQ Mandatory Virtual information session:02/14, at 4 PM via zoom. The GQ is the most important tool available for medical schools to gain insight and feedback from their graduating students and is a vital aid in our process of continuous quality improvement of our educational program.

    • AAMC FIRST - Home Financing for Graduating Medical Students and Residents: 02/22 @3pm, Webinar (free; registration required).Will explain the “ins and outs” of obtaining the best home financing for graduating medical students and residents…
    • Match-week Peer Assistance for SOAPing Students: 03/13 - 03/17, week of Match. Your Medical School Student Council and Wellness Committee have partnered to create a peer-assistance program for students in the SOAP during the match week.
    • Entering Advanced Integration Checklist: Completion of the checklist is due 03/17. We have deployed a requirement checklist for your class to complete prior to entering Advanced Integration. Co2024 please attend to these items by 03/17. 
    • Locker Return IMPORTANT Co2023:  No longer using your Baird locker? Please let us know if you are finished with your locker by emailing Catherine Daniel. We are welcoming new students to Clerkships in March, and we will need to provide them with pagers and UVMMC lockers. Contact Catherine Daniel with any questions.
    • Pager Return IMPORTANT Co2023: Please return your pager if no longer needed! Please bring your pager to Catherine Daniel at the OME suite (Given N100). Students who do not return their pager will be charged a replacement fee as per the Medical Student Handbook policy.   Contact Catherine Daniel with questions.
    • SAVE THE DATE: Friday, March 17, MATCH DAY for the Class of 2023: 03/17, 11:45 - 1:00 PM, Hoehl Gallery. The Match Day Celebration will also be live-streamed for friends and family members who wish to watch the proceedings from afar. The live stream link will be shared as the event date approaches.

    • THIS WEEK - SJC Elections (CT campus) - Co2026: 02/11 - 02/25, election period. Social Justice Coalition is looking for a representative for the CT campus! If you love being involved in LCOM if you love working with other groups, and if you want to make a difference during your time at LCOM.
    • THIS WEEK DEADLINE - LCOM Medical Student Summer Research - Pre-Proposal Co2026 Submission: 02/13, submission deadline. Submit the pre-proposal form electronically to Amir Sadick Must be submitted as a single PDF document with the file name “2023_SummeResearch-PreProposal_studentlastnamestudentfirstname”.
    • THIS WEEK DEADLINE - 2023 NYU/ Bellevue Emergency Medicine Summer Medical Student Fellowship for Underrepresented Minorities in Medicine*: 02/15 application deadline. We encourage URM students who are interested in EM to apply to our 4-week Summer Fellowship. We are offering 5 funded positions, including NYU housing & travel to New York City. 
    • Mandatories Updates Co2026 - Complete annual mandatory training through the UVMMC Cornerstone platform: 02/22, Deadline for completing the checklist. Prior to the launch of DIV, we must verify that each student has completed these mandatories.
    • AHEC Funded IPE Summer Project - Prevention of Firearm Injury: 02/22, Application deadline. Vermont Area Health Education Center (AHEC) will sponsor 2 medical students with a stipend of $1500 to perform summer work on interprofessional projects related to the prevention of firearm injury.
    • AHEC Summer Projects 2023: 02/22, application deadline. Summer Projects in 2 tracks - Research/QI and Education -Mentoring - $1,500 Stipend AHEC Scholars eligible activity.
    • The American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) Mentorship Opportunity for URiM M1 Students*:02/24, Application Deadline. This program is specifically designed to provide Underrepresented in Medicine (URiM) first-year medical students the opportunity to participate in an in-person, all-expenses-paid, two-week mentorship program at the ABEM headquarters (East Lansing, Michigan) June 5-16, 2023.
    • 2023 Gold Student Summer Fellowships*: 03/20, application deadline. The grant award includes a stipend for a single project of up to $4,000 for a 10-week period. Proposals are selected based on a set of criteria that includes quality and quantity of patient interaction, methodology, and more.
    • AAMC Virtual Specialty Forum - Get your specialty questions answered!: 03/23, 1 - 4 Pm, Virtual event online registration required. This annual event hosted by the Careers in Medicine® program works to provide equitable access to specialty exposure, where medical students can view resources, chat with specialty representatives and AAMC staff, as well as attend a live presentation with residents about their specialty choice.
    • Summer Research Scholarship in Neurosurgery for Black Medical Students*: 04/01 Application Deadline. The purpose of the award is to provide a neurosurgical-based research fellowship for Black students attending medical school or post–graduate training (Master's or Ph.D.), who wish to gain research experience in the fields of neuroscience and neurosurgery, and have early exposure to the field of neurosurgery.

    • Solidarity Week for Compassionate Patient Care: Feb, 13 - 17. Solidarity Week for Compassionate Patient Care is a weeklong recognition event. GHHS chapters, medical schools, and patient care institutions from across the country promote activities to celebrate their dedication to ensuring compassionate, patient-centered care.

    • Healthcare Burnout Symposium: Feb 23 - 25, in Los Angeles, CA.  Learn how to productively & proactively discuss the factors that impact wellness
    • New Year, More YOU 9-week online Group Yoga Therapy series:starting February 26, 2023. Participants will unlearn and unwind negative and harmful ideas and tendencies around self-change and learn how to connect to self and inner knowing with kindness and compassion.

UVM Athletics' Rally Against Cancer hockey and basketball games in February benefit the UVM Cancer Center.     • VCM Med Tent Volunteering - Come be a medical volunteer for the Vermont City Marathon: 0n 5/28, Vermont City Marathon. Vermont’s premiere sporting event is expecting approximately 4200 runners and will need lab personnel, EMTs, Paramedics, ATs, PTs, RNs, PA/NPs, and MD/DOs as well as non-credentialed volunteers for our medical team.

      • Updates on All Things Research at UVM: 02/15, 4:30 - 6 pm, in Waterman 427. Vice President Kirk Dombrowski hosts a Research Forum to answer any questions from faculty, staff, and researchers. The event will also be live-streamed on UVM's YouTube channel.
      • Leadership & Education Program for Students in Integrative Medicine (LEAPS into IM) focuses on developing leadership skills, Integrative Medicine education, self-care skills, and developing IM projects for students to implement at their own home schools. June 5-9th, Oceanside CA. Applications are due February 15th.

    • Medical Curriculum Committee Meetings - Open Meetings: 02/21, 5-7 (via Zoom). The Medical Curriculum Committee holds their meetings, which are open to all LCOM stakeholders (faculty, staff, students), on the third Tuesday of every month, 5-7pm.

    • Green Mountain Molecular Modeling Workshop - "Molecular Modeling 101 Protein Structure Prediction": 02/22, 9 - 12 pm, HSRF 300. We are excited to invite you to the Green Mountain Molecular Modeling Workshop. Molecular modeling has become a contemporary affordable tool to study the structure-mechanism-function relationship of biomolecules, as well as to design new molecules and materials. 
    • FLYNN Collaborating Public Safety: 02/23, 7 pm, at the Flynn (free event). Flynn is hosting an important conversation on public safety. This topic with respect to law enforcement is clearly something the whole country is focused on and The Flynn is hoping to provide an opportunity for some meaningful dialogue at this special free event.

    STUDENT FINANCIAL SERVICES (Scholarships, Awards, & Finance FYIs)

    Our Medical Student Financial Services begin with prospective students and continue through the curriculum to commencement. We advise students on various aspects such as financing their medical education, loan debt management matters, and financial wellness.     • "Financial Fellowship" Interview Series: 02/22, at 5 pm Via online registration. Interested in participating in a Spotify series discussing financial literacy topics and learning from your peers about how money management has influenced their medical school experience?
    • John Van Sicklen Maeck, MD’39 Scholarship: 02/24, submission deadline. The amount of the scholarship is $6,200. Mrs. Maeck asked that the scholarship be used to promote the entry into the medical profession of students whose primary preparation has been in the liberal arts rather than the sciences.
    • 2023 UCB Family Epilepsy Scholarship*: Application deadline 03/31. Thirty scholarships of up to $5,000 each and three scholarships of up to $10,000 each will be awarded to applicants who demonstrate academic and personal achievement. Learn more about UCB Family program...
    • John Healey, MD '78 Medical Student Travel Award: 06/30 application deadline. The Larner College of Medicine established the John H. Healey, MD ’78 Medical Student Travel Award Fund in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of Dr. Healey’s graduation from the Larner College of Medicine. Awards will range between $1,000 and $2,000 and will be based on student need. Students will be selected by the Committee for Awards, Scholarship and Honors. 
    • 2023 proposals for the Lucey Prize: 04/04, Application Deadline.  The prize awarded includes $1500 to each level awardee or their team (to be shared per lead investigator) and will be distributed at a Pediatric Grand Rounds May 31, 2023.

    • National Academies to host webinar on new report exploring anti-racism in STEMM organizations: 02/14, at 11 am ET, Virtual event. The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will release a consensus study report, Advancing Anti-racism, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in STEMM Organizations,
    • ASH HONORS (Hematology Opportunities for the Next Generation of Research Scientists) Award: 02/15 application deadline.  The ASH HONORS Award contributes to the development of the next generation of hematologists by providing research funding for talented M1 and M2 as well as first- and second-year medical residents. $5,000 stipend and $1,000 travel expense included. 
    • Application Deadline - all medical students " Integrative Medicine Leadership Training Opportunity": Application due 02/15. Interested in leadership and education around integrative medicine? Apply for this summer program.

    Housing Opportunities

    Graduate students are highly sought tenants in the Burlington area and property owners often advertise specifically to them with special rates (less than would be offered to undergraduate students). Don't hesitate to ask housing contacts if they would consider lowering the advertised rate to secure a graduate student; it never hurts to ask!

    Lost & Found

    Lost something? Email the Office of Medical Education (OME) a description of the item. OME and the Dana Medical Library recently joined the UVM campus-wide lost & found system and search not only the College of Medicine, but campus as a whole to see if it's been turned in. If it hasn't, the office can file a claim for the item should someone turn it in soon!

    Found something? Please turn it into either the Office of Medical Education (Given Courtyard n100) or the Dana Medical Library (First floor of the Medical Education Center) and we will be sure to log it into the Campus-Wide Lost & Found Database.

    Found items are kept up to 30 days, and then are donated to various local organizations depending on the item.
