Family Medicine faculty lead and assist in teaching throughout the foundations level integrating clinical medicine into basic science.

Clerkship—Specialty Based Clinical Experiences
Many of our committed teachers also participate in the required Family Medicine Clerkship. The clerkship emphasizes the acquisition of skills and knowledge related to the care of patients in the outpatient setting. The Clerkship operates in Vermont, Connecticut, Maine, and New York. Family Medicine physicians care for a diverse group of patients of all ages on a longitudinal basis providing acute care, chronic disease management, prevention, health maintenance and education. Students will examine the role of the Family Physician, both in leading the patient-centered medical home and within the complex health care system as a whole. During their rotations, students collaborate with their host communities to complete Community Health Improvement Projects and study from a national on-line curriculum designed by the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine.
Advanced Integration—Senior Year Programs
Senior students can choose among 11 different Family Medicine courses, including the extremely popular Acting Internship in Family Medicine at The University of Vermont Medical Center.

Visiting Students
The Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at The University of Vermont is currently only accepting visiting students from other United States schools and LCME-accredited Canadian schools. A list of LCME-accredited Canadian schools can be found here.
Visiting students are encouraged to complete a VSLO application, in the event that a rotation becomes available.
