Residents

The University and The University of Vermont Medical Center's Family Medicine Health Care Service support the only such residency program in Vermont, working with six residents per year in a three-year training program. Read more

Family Medicine Highlights:

Congratulations to Whitney Calkins, M.D., who received the 2024 Frymoyer Scholarship along with co-applicants Christina Vollbrecht and medical students Alyssa Tenney, Molly Hurd, and Sarah Krumholz. Dr. Calkins and team are developing "A Multimodal Approach to Bridging Gaps in Nutrition Education: A Culinary Medicine Experience."  (4/2024)

Congratulations to Norman Ward, M.D.,  Vermont Medical Society’s 2023 Leadership Awardee for the Distinguished Service Award. This recognized Norm’s decades of leadership and service our organization, as former Executive Medical Director and CMO of the region’s Accountable Care Organization, and service to the field of the Family Medicine and primary care for the state and region.

Congratulations to Justin Hurlburt, DMD MA, who became the President of the Vermont State Dental Society (VSDS) on September 22, 2023. He is also the Program Director for the General Practice Dental Residency and Site Leader of UVMMC Dental and Oral Health. He joins Dr. Anne Morris (President, Vermont Academy of Physicians) and Dr. Mary Harrison (Treasurer, Vermont Academy of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons) in representing this year at the State level.  Thanks to all of you for your service to your professions! Congratulations are in order for our research faculty Dr. Bob Gramling (FM research director) and Dr. Maija Reblin. They are investigators on a 20-million-dollar National Science Foundation (NSF) grant: Harnessing the Data Revolution for Vermont: The Science of Online Corpora, Knowledge, and Stories (SOCKS). Dr. Gramling and Dr. Reblin’s story listening projects from the Vermont Conversation Lab (VCL) are featured as one of the core programs for the award (developing the computational narrative analytics for healthcare conversational storytelling). The VCL faculty on the grant are Maija, Elise, Donna, Nick, Ryan and Bob. If you are at LCOM, please meander close to the Given Bistro. Anthony Williams, MD named new Larner Assistant Dean for Admission. In this role, Williams will provide leadership support for the recruitment and selection of Larner College of Medicine medical students. (7/2023) Read more

Anja Jokela, MD received the University of Vermont Women and Gender Equity (WAGE) Center Award for Outstanding Faculty for her significant contributions to gender equity at UVM. (4/2023)
