(November 21, 2024) Erika Ziller, Ph.D., director of Larner’s Health Services Research Center and associate professor of medicine, and her team will use a $2.8 million grant from the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy to study the effect of federal policy on rural health care, WCAX-TV reports.
The grant will be used to establish the Northeast Rural Health Research Center (NeRHRC) to conduct applied research focused on rural health care access. The center will work with the University of Southern Maine to study rural health insurance, emergency services, behavioral health, aging, and policy strategies to support rural health care providers.
“A lot of our focus will be on federal policy and state policy, but as the center grows and hires more staff we really want to be a resource for all the great rural work that’s already happening,” she said.
The U.S. Census shows 65 percent of Vermonters live in rural areas, the highest rural population in the country.
