(APRIL 21, 2022) Second-year medical students Caitlin Marassi and Ellen Mats organized a drive to collect medical supplies to be sent to Ukraine. They spoke with reporter Lexi Krupp, a corps member for Report for America, a nonprofit national service program that places journalists in local newsrooms to report on under-covered issues and regions, for a segment titled “How Two Vermont Medical Students Are Helping People in Ukraine” on Vermont Public. Among the items dropped off at Vermont Flannel Company stores across the state and carefully packed for shipping to Ukraine were tourniquets, sutures, gauze, antibiotic ointment, and even a portable ultrasound machine, along with tactical backpacks, drones, and IV starter kits. The students worked with the nonprofit Razom for Ukraine.
