VCHIP worked with Vermont Department of Health school nurse liaisons and school nurses on a quality improvement project to help school nurses implement effective strategies to reduce the number of provisionally admitted students.
In Vermont, students with incomplete or undocumented immunizations status may attend school despite not complying with state regulations of immunization requirements if they are working toward getting vaccinated or filing an exemption.
Tracking these provisionally admitted students and encouraging students to become vaccinated was challenging for school nurses.
Findings from this project were recently reported in an article published in the Journal for School Nursing.
