Medical students at the Larner College of Medicine gain clinical experience at a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings and locations during the Clerkship and Advanced Integration levels of the Vermont Integrated Curriculum. Some students spend a few months rotating through different clinical locations; others spend a full clinical year embedded in primary care clinics.
Our clinical partner and affiliate hospitals have merged the best of community and academic medicine and offer a variety of clinical experiences for our students. These hospitals and providers give patients access to leading-edgy technology, advanced treatment options and the highest level of compassionate care.
The UVM Medical Center
The UVM Medical Center is our primary teaching hospital partner. Its location, adjacent to the Larner College of Medicine campus, fosters a culture of collaboration and partnership. The Medical Center is a member of The University of Vermont Health Network. Additional network member hospitals are located throughout Vermont and upstate New York and partner with the Larner College of Medicine.
The UVM Health Network
The UVM Medical Center is a member of The University of Vermont Health Network. Additional network member hospitals, including Alice Hyde Medical Center,Central Vermont Medical Center, Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital and Elizabethtown Community Hospital are located throughout Vermont and upstate New York and partner with the Larner College of Medicine. The Hudson Headwaters Health Network hosts a one-year Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship.
Western Connecticut Health Network
The Western Connecticut Health Network is compromised of three Connecticut hospitals: Danbury Hospital, Norwalk Hospital, and New Milford Hospital. In addition to local clinical opportunities, Danbury Hospital is the host of the Global Health Program.
Eastern Maine Medical Center
Located in Bangor, Maine, the Eastern Maine Medical Center hosts traditional clerkships as well as the one-year Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship. The difference between the two offerings is that students in the regional campus sites meet the objectives of each clerkship in a longitudinal manner rather than in the traditional block schedule.
St. Mary's Medical Center
St. Mary's Medical Center is an award-winning 464-bed hospital located in West Palm Beach, Florida. St. Mary's hosts traditional clerkship opportunities for our students.
