Professional Development

We will be offering regular training for faculty on software used in the Larner medical curriculum. Sessions will be between 60 and 90 minutes in length and will focus on skills aligned with increasing student engagement and learning in an active learning curriculum. Our current schedule is included below.

Our sessions will run with two or more attendees. We will notify you if your workshop will not be held due to low attendance three days prior to the scheduled session and offer you options for other workshop dates and times or for a scheduled one-on-one session.

Camtasia Workshops

Camtasia - Getting Started

Learn the basics of the screen & audio capture software Camtasia, and learn about COMTS’s hardware options available for you to record a video. After this session, you will have the basic skills needed to record and edit a presentation and save the project as a video file for students. You do not need to bring a laptop to this session.

Camtasia - Taking it Further

Camtasia has a number of advanced features. If you’ve successfully recorded and edited a presentation and now would like to dive into some exciting new enhancement options, this session is for you. You will learn about adding text, arrows, and other shapes; zooming in on a part of the screen recording; jumping out of PowerPoint to other applications such as OneNote while continuing to record (and editing out the transitions); blurring a portion of the screen; and more. If there’s something specific you hope to do in Camtasia, let us know when registering and we’ll try to cover it.

TurningPoint Clickers

If you’ve already presented with TurningPoint Anywhere clicker software and you’re wondering what more it can do, this session is for you. The version of TurningPoint that integrates with PowerPoint looks cleaner, and can add creative touches, such as countdown timers, keeping a running tally of who has answered the most questions correctly, and more. You don’t have to bring a laptop to this session. However, to use the advanced features, after you learn about them, you’ll need the software installed on your computer.

SoftChalk Workshops

Softchalk is a software program that helps you create an interactive web-based learning module, without the need to learn web programming. It’s fairly simple to learn, and you can easily insert text, images, quizzes, interactive games, audio, video, and more.
