The newest members of the Teaching Academy at The Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at The University of Vermont were inducted during a ceremony and dinner held January 5, 2017 that kicked off the Snow Season Education Retreat at the Sheraton Burlington Hotel and Conference Center.
A total of nine faculty members and four residents were recognized in three different member categories during the induction ceremony. On Friday, January 6, attendees heard a keynote lecture on “Inside Out: Clarifying the Values and Assumptions that Drive Us as Educators” by Elizabeth Gaufberg, M.D., M.P.H., Jean and Harvey Picker Director of the Arnold P. Gold Foundation Research Institute and an associate professor of medicine and psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. Gaufberg’s innovative curricula on professional boundaries, the stigma of addictions, and the hidden curriculum are in use in hundreds of medical training institutions worldwide.
Breakout sessions held throughout the day focused on honing active learning teaching skills, learning to use active learning-related technological tools, as well as scholarship and the College’s new Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship.
