The most divine art is that of healing.  And if the healing art is most divine, it must occupy itself with the .. 'brain'.. as well as the body; for no creature can be sound so long as the higher part of it is suffering.

The Vision of the Department of Neurology is that through our successes as the regional leader in the clinical care of disease of the nervous system and clinical and basic neuroscience research, we will establish our program as a nationally recognized academic department of neurology.

The Mission of the department, which is tailored to achieve our Vision, is to: provide the best neurological care to patients and their families; collaborate with heath care providers at Fletcher Allen Health Care and the region; create new understandings of neurological pathobiology; implement new methods for evaluation and management of disease of the nervous system; train the next generations of neurologists; and integrate health care management system for patients with neurological disorders.

Our Goals include: creating an ideal setting for research and education that serves to promote the advancement of knowledge and clinical care; establishing an effective and integrated neurological care program by demonstrating collaboration, teamwork and clear communication throughout the clinical neuroscience programs of Fletcher Allen Health Care, and the medical communities of Vermont and upstate New York; and recognizing the outcome measures that best judge the value of our services and programs.

In Summary:  The Department of Neurology’s Vision, Missions, and Goals stem from a collective desire and plan to provide “World-Class” clinical and basic neuroscience in a rural setting ensuring the highest level of clinical care, education and research that we can provide for the University of Vermont College of Medicine, Fletcher Allen Health Care, and the adjacent regions of Vermont and New York State that we serve.
