The faculty in our division are closely aligned with the Vermont Lung Center (VLC), an interdepartmental research center studying lung biology and lung disease. Funded for many years by an NIH NCRR COBRE (Center for Biomedical Excellence), and now funded by multiple RO1s, the American Lung Association – Airways Clinical Research Center Award and an NIH NHLBI T32 training grant, the VLC provides unparalleled opportunities for research, career training and translational clinical research investigation

Research & Education

Our division has a national and international reputation in research, especially in the areas of asthma, stem cell research and more recently obesity and lung disease.

Our research studies include such topics as asthma, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, pulmonary hypertension, interventional pulmonary, critical care, and cystic fibrosis, among others. Basic science and translational research focuses on airway disease biology and animal modeling of asthma and other airway diseases.

Our faculty participates in the medical school curriculum, training Internal Medicine residents, and supports the work of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. Additionally, our division offers a Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship.
