(FEBRUARY 17, 2016) A front-page story in the Boston Globe highlights the brainchild of University of Vermont College of Medicine Professor James Hudziak, M.D. - UVM's Wellness Environment program, known as WE. Based on his extensive neuroscience expertise, Hudziak developed the substance-free living community for first-year students, which debuted in fall 2015 and is housed in Patterson Hall on UVM's Redstone campus. The program focuses on mindfulness, features a mentorship program that matches each student with a Burlington, Vt. youth, provides personal fitness and nutrition coaches for every student, daily yoga and tai chi instruction, round-the-clock meditation sessions, and a required neuroscience course taught by College of Medicine faculty.
