Primary Care Sports Medicine Conference
The Primary Care Sports Medicine Conference is scheduled for September 27-29, 2017, in South Burlington, Vermont. This course is designed to update knowledge and skills in the diagnosis and management of common sports medicine problems. Primary Care physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and other healthcare professionals with an interest in sports medicinie are encouraged to attend. Topics will include discussions of both medical and orthopedic issues, and several hands-on workshops will be conducted featuring joint-specific examinations. There will be ample opportunity for participants to ask questions and interact with faculty.

Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO)
The department co-sponsored an ALSO provider course July 20 & 21, 2016, in Burlington, Vermont. The two-day course is designed to review topics of importance in the management of childbirth emergencies with an emphasis on hands-on practical skills such as forceps and vacuum assisted delivery, delivery of malpresentation, monitory strip interpretation, shoulder dystocia, basic ultrasound, and counseling in the setting of birth crisis. This year there were participants from the New Hampshire Dartmouth Family Practice Residency and the University of Vermont Family Medicine Residency. Faculty from Vermont and New Hampshire served as instructors: Melisa Gibson MD, Approved Instructor and Course Director; Stephen Genereaux, MD, ALSO Approved Instructor and National Advisory, Anya Koutras, Approved Instructor and National Advisory Faculty and Approved Instructors, Sarah Hudson, MD, Angela Yerdon McLeod, DO, Teri Brehio, MD, and ALSO Instructor Leonard Tremblay, MD.
The next course will be held July 17 & 18, 2017, in Concord, New Hampshire.

Vermont Family Medicine Review Course
The 42nd Annual Family Medicine Review Course was held at the Sheraton Hotel and Conference Center from May 31 - June 3, 2016. There were over 200 attendees on "Vermont Day". The course faculty was drawn almost exclusively from The University of Vermont Medical Center/ UVM College of Medicine medical staff, once again highlighting the incredible depth of talent at our institution.
The course serves a broad cross-section of regional and national physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, residents and medical students with an emphasis on preparation for the Family Medicine Board Certification Exam. Dr. Anya Koutras served as course director and again enjoyed expert support from the Office of Continuing Medical Education at the College of Medicine.
This next course will be presented June 6 - June 9, 2017.
Annual Cultural Awareness Workshop
The 15th Annual Cultural Awareness Workshop, Coming to the U.S.A. "A Focus on Healthcare Challenges" was held Wednesday, February 17, 2016, with about 250 in attendance.
This workshop was presented by the University of Vermont College of Medicine, Department of Family Medicine, College of Nursing and Health Sciences, Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Office of Primary Care and AHEC Programs, and Office of MedicalStudent Education. The course director was Martha Seagrave, PA-C, Department of Family Medicine.
The next workshop will be held on February 15, 2017.
