Justin DeAngelis, M.D., and Mariah McNamara, M.D., have been appointed as interim assistant deans for students in the Office of Medical Student Education at the Larner College of Medicine, effective March 1, 2021.

Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education Christa Zehle, M.D., and Interim Associate Dean for Students Lee Rosen. Ph.D., have announced the appointments of Justin DeAngelis, M.D., and Mariah McNamara, M.D., as interim assistant deans for students in the Office of Medical Student Education at the Larner College of Medicine, effective March 1.
As interim assistant deans, DeAngelis and McNamara, under the guidance of Lee Rosen, Ph.D., interim associate dean for students, will provide oversight of programs that support student professional identity development, academic achievement, health and wellbeing and career advising, and contribute to institutional leadership initiatives related to the delivery of the Larner medical education program.
DeAngelis received his medical degree from the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. He completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Boston Medical Center and joined the UVM faculty as an assistant professor of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive sciences in 2017. In 2020, he took on the role of associate clinical clerkship director in obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive sciences. DeAngelis has received numerous teaching awards, including the 2020 Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics Excellence in Teaching Award.
McNamara is a graduate of the Larner College of Medicine, and in addition to her M.D. degree, holds a Master of Public Health degree from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. She completed a residency in emergency medicine at the Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Program at Brigham & Women's and Massachusetts General Hospitals and was a fellow in global health at Massachusetts General Hospital. McNamara joined the UVM faculty in 2012 and is currently an associate professor of surgery in the Division of Emergency Medicine, where she is assistant division chief. She is also associate chief medical officer for medical staff affairs at the UVM Medical Center and associate director of the Larner College of Medicine/Nuvance Health Global Health program. She is the recipient of the Abrams Teaching Award for dedication and commitment to excellence in education from the UVM Department of Surgery.
