Medical students from The Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at The University of Vermont and UVM Medical Center residents are hosting a screening of the film “Resilience: The Biology of Stress & the Science of Hope” on Wednesday, December 14, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. in Davis Auditorium.

The screening is part of a kickoff for the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Section on Pediatric Trainees’ 2016-17 national advocacy campaign – “Partnering for Resilience: Learn, Empower, and Connect to Address Toxic Stress.” The event will also include a panel discussion featuring providers, community organizations and families following the film.

According to Class of 2017 medical student Meredith Sooy, one of the organizers of the event, “extremely stressful experiences in childhood, from violence to sexual abuse to divorce, can alter brain development and have lifelong effects on health and behavior. Toxic stress is now understood to be one of the leading causes of everything from heart disease and cancer to substance abuse and depression.” Read more about the campaign in Sooy’s blog post.
