Overview

This course is designed to address important clinical issues encountered while delivering critical care. All ICU healthcare professionals (physicians, pharmacists, nurses, respiratory therapists, advanced practice nurses and physician assistants) will be given up‐to‐date and practical information relative to daily management of the critically ill patient. Participants will be able to identify and discuss recent developments and trends through comprehensive didactic sessions.

Course Objectives

* Discuss the best practices for invasive and non-invasive ventilation.

* Discuss the utility of ultrasound in the critical care setting.

* Discuss the evaluation process for tracheostomy placement and swallowing evaluations.

* Discuss the impact of patient and family centered care in the critical care setting.

Optional Ultrasound Workshop

An optional ultrasound workshop will be offered which will include rotation through ultrasound practical stations, offering hands-on instruction and experience. Enrollment is limited.

Workshop Objectives

* Practice the utility of ultrasound for evaluation of pneumothorax.

* Practice the utility of ultrasound for evaluation of pleural effusions and guiding thoracentesis.

Accreditation

The Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine is accredited by the American Nurses Credential Center (ANCC), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

The University of Vermont designates this live activity for a maximum of 13.5 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

This program has been prior approved by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists for 13.50 Class A CE credits; Code Number 1033762; Expiration Date 10/15/2016.

This activity is approved for a maximum of 13.5 ACEP Category I credits by the American College of Emergency Physicians.

The State of Vermont Board of Pharmacy has approved this course for 13.5 hours of live (didactic) pharmacy continuing education credit. The approval number issued is CPE010(L)-727.

The State of Vermont Board of Respiratory Therapists has approved this course for a maximum of 13.5 credit hours.

This program has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 12.0 Nursing Contact Hours.
