Overview

This conference is designed to present current clinical management issues in surgical patients for the general surgeon in practice, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and other health care professionals in the field.

Registration is limited to allow personal contact with the faculty in order that each participant will be able to tap the resources available for his/her own clinical scenarios.

Objectives

Following this conference, participants attending this course should be able to:

  • Describe special considerations for palliative care of elderly patients.
  • Describe the evaluation and management of patients with thyroid cancer.
  • Describe the use of the Tokyo or AAST/Parkland Grading Scale in the assessment of acute Cholecystitis.
  • Describe management options for patients with giant hiatal hernias.

In support of improving patient care, the Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at the University of Vermont is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

The University of Vermont designates this live activity for a maximum of 18.25 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.  

This program has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 18.25 Nursing Contact Hours.

Please note: If you do not participate in any of the optional workshops, the conference is accredited for 10.0 credits.

A self-assessment exam will be given to allow the opportunity to earn 10 credits toward fulfilling Part 2 of the ABS MOC program.

Ski Information

A single voucher will provide a discount for each person who plans to ski or snowboard at Stowe Mountain Resort. Those interested in renting equipment and/or looking to participate in any of the children's lesson programs will be provided a web-link where they can make the reservation and pay for activity. Pre-registration is needed for ALL adult lessons and children's camps and lessons. Stowe Mountain Resort is a Vail Resort. Individuals with an Epic Pass, depending on the type of pass, have unlimited access at all Vail Resorts.

Hotel Information

A block of beautifully appointed rooms has been reserved at the Lodge at Spruce Peak (formerly known as the Stowe Mountain Lodge). Please reserve a room directly with the Lodge by December 24. The discounted conference rates are: Studio - $315 per night plus 10% state and local tax, single or double occupancy; Jr. Suite - $455/night; One-Bedroom Suite - $599/night; Two-Bedroom Suite - $895/night. There is a $10 daily parking charge.

Conference Syllabus

The conference syllabus will be available as an electronic download with presentations as PDF files. Please bring your laptop/electronic device to view presentations as well as to complete the electronic conference evaluations. You will receive a notification via email prior to the conference start date with instructions for accessing the presentations. Printed syllabi will not be available.
