Primary Care Sports Medicine

Course Description
The 2021 Primary Care Sports Medicine Conference is designed to update knowledge and skills in the diagnosis and management of common sports medicine problems. Topics will include discussions of medical and orthopedic issues in lectures. There will be
ample opportunity for participants to ask questions and interact with faculty, who hail from the University of Vermont Health Network and local community. The teaching program includes lectures and extensive course materials.
2021 Topics Include:
- Acute Head and Neck Injury
- Care for the Transgender Athlete
- Common Fractures seen in Skiing or Wilderness Medicine
- Hyponatremia
- And more!
Audience
The primary care team, including physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners and physician assistants, and other health professionals including physical therapists and athletic trainers, with an interest in sports medicine are encouraged to attend.
Objectives
After attending this conference, participants should be able to:
- Describe different treatments for sideline coverages: neck injury, fracture management, hyponatremia.
- Recognize what medical care is necessary when treating a transgender athlete.
- Review exam findings and surgical management options for acl tears and athletic hips.

In support of improving patient care, the Robert Larner MD College of Medicine at the
University of Vermont is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing
education for the healthcare team.
The University of Vermont designates this internet live activity for a maximum of 6.75 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
