Family Medicine Review Course

Overview

This intensive four-day program for family physicians, nurses, and other primary care professionals will focus on current issues in the practice of family medicine, with special attention to new contributions. Emphasis is on practical, clinically applicable diagnostic and management issues in primary care. The course faculty is drawn from multiple specialties, including Family Medicine. The teaching program includes lectures, workshops and extensive printed materials.

Objectives

After attending this conference, participants should be able to: 

1. Discuss important updates for the management of pediatric asthma, celiac disease, antibiotic resistance and tick-borne illnesses.

2. Describe key points when considering cardiac testing, benefits of early vascular screening, suicide prevention and long-acting reversible contraception (LARC).

3. Participate in workshops on skin procedures, EKG interpretation, buprenorphine treatment, medical management of first trimester miscarriage and shoulder and knee examination.

4. Discuss the 10 practice changers in 2017, urgent care cases, ophthalmology cases, common skin diagnoses and caring for the deaf and hard of hearing patients.

Accreditation

The Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine is accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), to provide continuing medical education for the health care team. 

The University of Vermont designates this live activity for a maximum of 22.5 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should
claim only credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. This program has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 22.5 Nursing Contact Hours.

Application for CME credit has been filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians. Determination of credit is pending.

We will be having a poster presentation session on Thursday, June 8, 2017 on Vermont Day of the Family Medicine Review Course. Please send us your ideas for a poster by using the link below. A PowerPoint template is available (contact lise.vance@uvmhealth.org for a copy) and the UVM Department of Family Medicine will peer review the submissions and cover the cost of printing the first 20 accepted posters. Please distribute widely to your staff, residents, and students.
