Overview

Please join us for this 23rd annual conference! This conference will provide anesthesiologists, nurse anesthetists, and anyone with an interest in the field of anesthesia with practical reviews and timely informative clinical updates on a variety of topics of current interest. Participants will be able to identify and discuss recent developments and trends through comprehensive didactic sessions. Faculty includes recognized experts in their fields, both on a national level and from the University of Vermont. The atmosphere will be friendly and informal and there will be ample time for questions and discussion with faculty and colleagues.

Objectives

  • Describe the indications for blood component transfusion.
  • Discuss the role for new anticoagulant reversal alternatives.
  • Describe the impact of morbid obesity on obstetric and anesthetic outcomes.
  • Discuss ultrasound evaluation of fluid responsiveness.
  • Describe ultrasound-guided methods for central venous catheter placement.
  • Describe the origins of “Pain as the fifth vital sign” and its unintended consequences on public health.
  • Discuss common controversies and topics of discussion between surgeons and anesthesiologists.
  • Recognize the signs and symptoms of fatigue and burnout and develop strategies to mitigate the development of burnout.
  • Describe the components of enhanced recovery including multimodal analgesia.
  • Discuss data surrounding opioid prescription for post-operative pain in opioid naïve patients.
  • Discuss the different constraints for NORA case management relative to OR case management.

Accreditation

Jointly Accredited Provider TMIn support of improving patient care, The Robert Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont is accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), to provide continuing medical education for the healthcare team.  

The University of Vermont designates this live activity for a maximum of 17 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. 

This program has been approved by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists for 17.00 Class A CE credits; Code Number 1035776; Expiration Date 3/11/2018.

This program has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 17 Nursing Contact Hours.

MOCA 2.0® credit will be offered after successful completion of the evaluation component for an additional fee of $25.

This conference includes 3 credits in Prescribing Controlled Substances and 1 credit in Hospice, Palliative Care, Pain Management.

A block of beautifully appointed rooms has been reserved at the Stowe Mountain Lodge in Stowe, Vermont. Please make your reservations directly with the Lodge (802-760-4755 or 888-478-6938) prior to January 20, 2018 and indicate your participation in the Anesthesia Conference to receive special discounted rates: $315 plus 10% state and local tax for single or double occupancy for studio accommodations. Suites are also available for an additional cost. There is a $15 daily parking charge. Room rates cannot be guaranteed after January 20. To ensure room choice and availability, it is recommended that you make your room reservations as soon as possible.

Conference Syllabus (Electronic Download)

The conference syllabus will only be available as an electronic download with presentations as PDF files. Please plan to bring your laptop or electronic device with you to the conference to view both the conference materials as well as to complete the online conference evaluations via the UVM CMIE credit system. You will receive an email notification (via the email you used to register for this conference) about a week prior to the conference start date that presentations will be available for downloading. Please note: Printed syllabus, paper copies of evaluations and paper CMIE certificates will not be provided.

Ski Information 

A single all-purpose voucher will provide a discount for each person who plans to ski (Nordic or Alpine) or ride, rent equipment, take a lesson and/or participate in any of the children's lesson programs. Pre-registration is needed for ALL adult lessons and Children's Camps and lessons. Only one voucher is needed per person, regardless of how it is to be used. Stowe Mountain Lodge is a Vail Resort. Epic Pass holders have unlimited ski access at all Vail resorts as described here

Registration

Tuition Fee is $675 for physicians, $550 for nurse anesthetists, and $450 for physicians-in-training for registrations postmarked by February 8th. Fee includes all course materials, continental breakfasts, coffee breaks each day, and the Johns’ Fund Reception on Saturday evening. Refunds, minus an administrative fee of $75, will be made only if notice of cancellation is received in writing by February 8, 2018. Refunds are not possible after that date.
