April 5, 2017Vermont Geriatrics Conference
Capitol Plaza, Montpelier, VT

Overview

The twelfth annual Vermont Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) Geriatrics Conference will be a one‐day symposium covering practical and innovative approaches to the medical care of older adults. Physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists, and other health professionals with an interest in the care of older adults are encouraged to attend. This year’s morning agenda focuses on geriatric medical issues that are commonly addressed in primary care practice, including caring for caregivers of patients with dementia, dementia care in the inpatient setting, an update on infectious diseases in geriatrics, and palliative care. Updates regarding guidelines for the elderly in the use of anticoagulation therapy, pain management, and promoting healthy nutrition and exercise will be the topics of afternoon concurrent sessions. Participants will have the opportunity to choose two of the three concurrent sessions. The symposium will end with a panel discussion that will focus on community outreach to improve care for elders. Ample time for discussion and questions has been built into the schedule.
