Primary Care Sports Medicine

This course is designed to update knowledge and skills in the diagnosis and management of common sports medicine problems. Primary care physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and other healthcare professionals with an interest in sports medicine are encouraged to attend. Topics will include discussions of both medical and orthopedic issues, and several breakout sessions that will be conducted featuring a variety of topics. There will be ample opportunity for participants to ask questions and interact with faculty.


  1. Discuss issues unique to the primary care of athletes.
  2. Develop skills in assessing and treating the injured and/or ill athlete.
  3. Discuss evaluation and management of concussions.
  4. Discuss evaluation and management of exercise-induced asthma.

In support of improving patient care, The Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at The University of Vermont is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

The University of Vermont designates this live activity for a maximum of 14.25 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

This program has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 14.25 Nursing Contact Hours.

Application for CME credit has been filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians. Determination of credit is pending.

Determination of Pharmacotherapeutic and Physical Therapy credits are pending.

Note to Occupational Therapists in Vermont: Your attendance certificate along with the agenda of this conference can be submitted to the NBCOT to claim credits you believe should count toward OT licensure renewal. As long as the NBCOT approves the credits, the state of Vermont will accept them.

Please plan to bring your laptop or electronic device with you to the conference to view the conference materials as well as to complete the online conference evaluations via the UVM CME online credit system. You will receive a notification via email a week from the conference start date that the presentations will be available for downloading. Please note: printed syllabus, paper copies of evaluations and paper CME certificates will no longer be provided.


The conference will be held at the DoubleTree Hotel, 1117 Williston Road, South Burlington, VT. Take Exit 14E from I-89. Merge onto Williston Road. The hotel will be just past Dorset Street on the right.

A limited number of rooms with reduced rates has been reserved for conference participants at the DoubleTree. Please make your hotel reservations directly with the hotel (802-658-0250) prior to August 27th and indicate your participation in this conference to receive special rates ($139 single-quad occupancy per room, per night plus Vermont state tax). Room rates cannot be guaranteed after August 27, 2017. Please be sure to book early as the hotel sells out during this time of year.
