Funds for Educational and Scholarly Opportunities

The University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine Funds for Educational and Scholarly Opportunities (FESO) program was established to support students who would like to travel to conferences, alternative learning opportunities or similar events. Grants are funded through donations to the Larner College of Medicine. Application submission deadlines are advertised in the WeeklyWire. The program has three application review periods each year.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis and must be submitted at least 2 months ahead of proposed travel. Applications that meet certain criteria will be reviewed and approved on a rolling basis. Others will be brought to the full FESO Committee for review and discussion. Awards generally do not exceed $500. The FESO committee will meet 4 times per year:

  • Applications received by September 30 will be reviewed in mid October
  • Applications received by December 31 will be reviewed in mid January
  • Applications received by March 31 will be reviewed in mid April
  • Applications received by May 31 will be reviewed in mid June

Please do not apply more than nine months ahead of your travel date and submit your application electronically to audree.frey@med.uvm.edu. Please contact the Committee administrator, Audree Frey at (802-656-8378), with any questions.

International Travel During Your Medical Education

Traveling abroad during your medical education is an exciting and rewarding experience. Our students have the opportunity to travel abroad at various points in the curriculum, especially during the summer between their first and second year or during the Advanced Integration portion of the curriculum. The Larner College of Medicine Scholarly Grant Program can help make these experiences possible.

If you are considering traveling abroad, please review our Medical Student Handbook Policy 920.00 - International Travel for information regarding student travel overseas.
