Come together - online - at Reunion 2020!
For the safety and wellbeing of our whole community, UVM Medical Reunion is being transformed into an online celebration of you, the College's valued alumni, and the bond you share with your medical alma mater.
Since you can't come to campus, the campus - and fellow classmates and faculty friends - will come to you, with a full slate of activities including Medical Alumni Association Awards, a 50th Reunion Celebration, Zoom Cocktail Hours, a State of
the College Address, and much more! Check back here for more details, and read a letter to you from Dean Page below.
Dear Medical Alumni,
I hope you are well and enjoying the summer. In Burlington, the Larner College of Medicine’s faculty and staff are preparing the College for the fall semester and striving to provide students with the educational
experiences that will prepare them to be skillful and empathetic physicians.
As we continue to deal with the pandemic, the College’s first priority remains the safety and wellbeing of its community. From educating the next
generation of UVM physicians, to performing world-class research, to caring for patients, the College’s missions rely on physical and mental wellness, and environments that are safe and secure.
This year, in light of this
reality, we are transforming UVM Medical Reunion weekend from an in-person weekend to an October online celebration of you, the College’s valued alumni, and the bond you all share with your medical alma mater.
There is nothing
I would like more than to welcome back alumni and friends with a handshake and a hug, but this year we must adapt and reconnect differently. Just this spring the College's newest alumni, the Class of 2020, saw their two most important senior-year
events, Match Day and Commencement, transformed by necessity into online formats. While certainly not the same as gathering in-person, these experiences showed us that the creative use of Zoom and other online tools really can bring people
together across distances in very meaningful ways. I was amazed at how Zoom technology allowed for truly intimate moments as members received their residency assignment or were hooded in their homes with their loved-ones.
Relations team, in cooperation with Larner College of Medicine leadership and the UVM Medical Alumni Association, is working diligently to prepare a series of special events, digital tours, online gatherings, and both recorded and live lectures
and panels. With official celebrations of milestone Reunion years, congratulatory Medical Alumni Association Awards events, and more casual moments of connection and nostalgia, we all believe these events will strengthen the bonds you have
with the College and, more important, will reinforce the bonds you share with each other.
This year, we have all shared a challenging experience that highlights the vital need for our personal bonds. The connections we share with
our families, friends, and colleagues bring our lives joy and purpose. The connections we made in medical school shaped who we would become, and it is important that we celebrate them this October and renew your ties to your medical alma mater.
These connections will be all the stronger when we're once again able to come together on campus.
So please mark your calendars for October and stay tuned for more details on how to connect and participate this fall.
