These conferences are offered by VRPHP at the request of the community hospitals. EFM Strips are selected by the community hospital for review. A multi-disciplinary team from the community hospital meets with maternal-fetal medicine faculty to review the case history and discuss the progress and outcomes of the labor while reviewing the EFM Strip. The EFM tracing is described using NICHD terminology and the appropriate actions to be taken based on the interpretation are discussed.
The participants are typically obstetricians and perinatal nurses from community hospitals and private practice as well as the maternal fetal specialists and perinatal nurse from the tertiary care hospital. The objective of this training is to retrospectively evaluate actions taken and to discuss options to improve maternal and/or fetal outcomes.
EFM Strip Reviews typically run for 1-2 hours and Continuing Medical Education credit and Contact Hours are available for physicians and nurses attending the conferences.
