Data collected on perinatal activities within a community hospital are summarized, analyzed and reported annually by VRPHP. These Perinatal Statistics Reports are specific to the community hospital, presenting trends in practice and outcomes over time as well as offering comparisons to other Vermont hospitals, the state of Vermont, and selected national trends. This report is reviewed by VRPHP faculty and hospital personnel at the Perinatal Statistic Review. During these reviews, hospitals identify outcomes outside the expected or recommended ranges and discuss potential changes in care practice which may impact these variables.
The faculty who present the data at the Perinatal Statistics Review include a maternal-fetal specialist, neonatologist, and perinatal nurse. Community hospital participants include (but are not limited to) obstetricians, pediatricians, family practice physicians, nurse midwifes, perinatal nurses, unit nurse managers, and department of health nurses.
Perinatal Statistic Reviews typically run for 2 hours. Continuing Medical Education credit and Contact Hours are available for physicians and nurses attending the conferences. A final Perinatal Statistics Report is provided to each community hospital and considered a peer protected document.
