Perinatal Continuing Education Program (PCEP)

P.C.E.P. focuses on the recognition of risk factors and illness in perinatal patients, stabilization, and short-term intensive care. The program was originally designed for the medical and nursing staffs providing perinatal care in community hospitals, where most babies are born.

VRPHP offers continuing education credit for perinatal nurses who study the PCEP books and submit the necessary materials to our office. Nurses can earn up to 52.2 contact hours for the entire book series, or can earn partial credit for completing portions of the PCEP books.

Possible Contact Hours:

Book I:

Maternal and Fetal Evaluation and Immediate Newborn Care – 9.5 hours

Book II:

Maternal and Fetal Care – 17.7 hours

Book II:

Newborn Care – 13.8 hours

Book III:

Specialized Newborn Care – 11.2 hours

Credit is given only for complete books, not individual education units. Individuals may only receive credit for studying PCEP books with a copyright date of 2006 or later. In order to receive credit the following materials must be submitted to VRPHP:

• Pre-test and Post-test answer sheets for each book studied.

• Evaluation form for each book studied.

• Completed Unit Documentation Form.

Upon receipt of program completion materials, VRPHP will mail certificate stating the number of contact hours earned by the individual. There is no fee from VRPHP for PCEP certificates.

Please contact Jennifer James at (802) 656-9295 for more information on earning credit for PCEP through VRPHP.
