Snow Season Education Retreat: Call for Abstracts

 This is an open invitation to submit a poster about your educational work, innovation, or research at a receptive and welcoming event.  We are seeking poster submissions (whether current or recently presented work) for the 2021 Snow Season Education Retreat. This will be an opportunity for UVM LCOM educators to share ideas and to collaborate across departments. We are particularly interested in work related to the education of professionals across the continuum of learners. We will consider posters you have presented at previous venues, other than Teaching Academy events. 

The Snow Season Education Retreat will be held virtually on Thursday, January 14, 2021.  A virtual Poster Session will take place on Thursday, January 14, 2021 during the noon hour. If your abstract is selected, you will be expected to give a 1-minute elevator pitch for your poster. If you request a peer-review for your poster, you must be available during the Snow Season Poster Session for Reviewers the afternoon on Thursday, January 14, 2021.

The deadline for poster abstract submission is November 9, 2020. Click here to download the submission form. Please submit your poster proposal to Amanda.Broder@med.uvm.edu. You will receive notification by Monday, November 30, 2020. In addition, authors may elect to receive peer review and feedback on their poster(s). Contact teaching.academy@med.uvm.edu with questions.

Faculty Development Series for Clinical Teachers 101

This 3-part faculty development series will cover all the major topics for Medical Education during the Clerkship. This program is available to all teachers, residents, fellows, faculty, and staff (i.e., clerkship coordinators). Each part (101, 201, and 301) consist of 6, one-hour sessions with the curriculum to repeat every 3 years. The curriculum is available at all teaching sites.

A Certificate of Completion will be awarded after completing at least 4/6 of the yearly sessions and a total of 12/18 (70%) of the sessions.

CMIE credit is given for attendance.

In support of improving patient care, The Robert Larner College of Medicine at The University of Vermont is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

The University of Vermont designates each session a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s)TM. Each physician should claim only those credits commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. RSVP: Teaching.Academy@med.uvm.edu to receive CMIE Credit.

• Learn methods that promote versatility in MCQ writing and use.
• Distinguish MCQs requiring simple recall from those requiring critical thinking and application of knowledge.
• Identify and correct common MCQ flaws, including irrelevant difficulty and clues that benefit testwise examinees.
• Review and write MCQs that focus on application of knowledge and cover topic areas in both clinical and foundational sciences.

"The Application of Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) in UME and GME"

EPAs support learner education across the medical education continuum.  In this session, participants will learn how to write an EPA for any skill and for any level of learner, and how to map the EPA to competencies/milestones.
