CONGRATULATIONS!

Professor of Anesthesiology and Teaching Academy Distinguished Educator, Melissa Davidson, MD, will become Interim Chair of Anesthesiology, effective September 1, upon the retirement of current Chair Donald Mathews, MD.

Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Teaching Academy Master Teacher, Bridget Marroquin, MD, has been appointed to the newly created role of Vice Chair of Education in the Department of Anesthesiology.

Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Teaching Academy Master Teacher, Lee Rosen, PhD, has been appointed interim Associate Dean for Students, effective August 3. He replaces Christa Zehle, MD, the Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education, who served in the role since 2012 and accepted the position of Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education in March 2020.

Jan Carney, MD Professor of Medicine, Associate Dean for Public Health and Health Policy, Senior Advisor to the Dean of the Larner College of Medicine, and Teaching Academy Distinguished Educator has been named the 2019–2020 recipient of the President’s Distinguished University Citizenship and Service Award in recognition of her innovative teaching, creative leadership and service to the University of Vermont community.

A range of interventions are promoted to help the 10-20% of the population who struggle with dyslexia. However, claims made by many interventions about their mechanisms to remediate dyslexia are dubious. This workshop will delve into several common neuromyths, including VAK Learning Styles, vision therapy, and dyslexia fonts.

Essentials of Teaching and Assessment Course: September 17-18, 2020

A two-day, intensive course to introduce participants to the pedagogy, strategies, and resources for effective teaching and assessment, including in the virtual environment. This event is open to all UVM College of Medicine faculty. This course is designed especially for faculty, residents, fellows, graduate students, and postdocs who are new to teaching.
