Congratulations!

On the investiture of Judith Lewis, MD, Teaching Academy Distinguished Educator, as the inaugural holder of the Robert A. Pierattini, MD Green & Gold Professorship in Psychiatry

Laura Greene, MD, Teaching Academy Master Teacher, has accepted the position of Pathology Residency Program Director as of July 1, 2023. She will work with the current program leadership team starting October 1, 2022, to transition to this new role.

Eline van den Broek-Altenburg, PhD, Assistant Professor of Radiology and Teaching Academy Member, received one of three 2022 PhRMA Foundation Value Assessment Research Awards for her team’s study abstract, titled “The Effect of Medical Innovation on Cost-Effectiveness of Covid-19 Policies in the U.S.,” at the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) 2022 conference in June in Washington, D.C.

Teaching Academy Member and Clinical Assistant Professor, Ramanathan Seshadri, MD, has taken over as Program Director for the General Surgery Residency at the Danbury Campus for Nuvance Health as of August 1, 2022.

Robert Althoff, MD, PhD, Teaching Academy Master Teacher and Associate Professor of Psychiatry, has been appointed Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Health Care Service Leader for Psychiatry.

UVMHN Medical Group Educational Scholarship Award Announcement

On behalf of the UVM Health Network Medical Group Faculty Practice Division, the Request for Proposals for the Educational Scholarship Award is now open. A one-page letter of intent is required. More information is included in the Request for Proposals (doc). If the grant review committee members determine that the applicant may benefit from guidance in refining the grant submission, they will request a meeting with grant applicants to review research aims and assist with development of the grant. Once again this year the Educational Scholarship Award will be following a different schedule than the Research and Innovations Awards. Please pay close attention to the important deadlines in the specific request for proposals that are outlined in this email.

Educational Scholarship Award: One award (up to $50,000) to support faculty research to better understand learners, educational processes or the outcomes associated with educational interventions.

Letters of intent are due by noon, September 26, 2022
Grant proposals are due by noon, November 7, 2022

The RFP includes grant specific information and instructions for the award. All members of the Faculty Practice Division of the UVMHN Medical Group are eligible to apply for this award as the Principal Investigator of the grant proposal and are encouraged to include UVMHN Medical Group members from the Community Practice Division and other health professional colleagues within the UVM Health Network.

Learn Serve Lead 2023: The AAMC Annual Meeting Call for Submissions in Medical Education

November 3-7, 2023, Seattle, WA. The AAMC is accepting submissions for Learn Serve Lead 2023: The AAMC Annual Meeting. Learn Serve Lead (LSL) is open to all those engaged in advancing academic medicine and brings together our medical school and teaching hospital community from across campuses, across disciplines, and across missions. The call for medical education submissions consists of three types (described in more detail online): Sessions on Medical Education; Medical Education Abstracts - Innovation and Research; Research in Medical Education (RIME) Research and Review Papers

Call for Papers: Submission Open Now! Advances in CPD are built and dependent on stimulating and developing new and emerging conceptual foundations for continuing professional development (CPD). The aim of this supplement is to stimulate authors in CPD and beyond to challenge existing assumptions and commitments, be productively disruptive, and to present new or emerging ideas for the CPD community to consider. Regional/National Call for Proposals 

Call for Submissions: Reflective MedEd

This online publication dedicated to reflection and care of the person in medicine, seeks submissions that reflect upon elucidate the “New Normal” in medical education and medicine.  Since the onset of the COVID19 pandemic, medical education and the practice of medicine feel different and in some ways are now different.  We invite authors to reflect on their experiences to provide insight into any aspect of this evolution that they find compelling. Submissions should follow Reflective MedEd’s typical conventions outlined in the Author Instructions. Timeline:  We hope to publish the first of these essays at the end of September 2022 and will integrate additional accepted pieces into our publishing schedule through the Fall 2022 and Spring 2023. SACME Call for Abstracts & Workshop Proposals for SACME’s 2023 Multichannel Annual Meeting

The SACME Scholarship and Program Committees invite you to submit an abstract for oral or poster presentations at the 2023 Society for Academic Continuing Medical Education Annual Meeting. The meeting will feature in-person and virtual participation. Our planning committees are working to create an interactive, stimulating event that will provide opportunities for development, networking, and scholarly interactions. The SACME Program Committee is pleased to invite you to submit a proposal to present a pre-conference or post-conference workshop as part of the 2023 Annual Meeting. Workshops will be presented virtually in the weeks leading up to the main event, which will be held March 14-17, 2023, as well as after the event. Essentials of Teaching and Assessment

September 29 & 30, 2022
A hybrid two-day, intensive course to introduce participants to the pedagogy, strategies, and resources for effective teaching and assessment. This event is open to all UVM Larner College of Medicine faculty at all teaching sites. This course is designed especially for faculty, residents, fellows, graduate students, and postdocs who are new to teaching.

This course will be offered for approximately two half-days: the afternoon of 9/29 will take place at the Davis Center and morning of 9/30 will be virtual via Zoom.
