Congratulations!

F. Louis Kirk, MD, Teaching Academy Member and Assistant Professor in Anesthesiology, was awarded the Society for Education in Anesthesia SEAd Grant. The Society for Education in Anesthesia provides a $10,000 education research starter grant, open to Faculty members of the Society. The grant is awarded annually. The purpose of the grant is to inspire and assist aspiring faculty who have no previous funding to start an educational research project.

Kathleen Monforte, MSN, RN, PCCN, Teaching Academy Interprofessional Education (IPE) Visiting Faculty Scholar, defended her doctoral thesis on May 3rd.  Kathleen pursued her DNP degree with a focus on Executive Nurse Leadership and her thesis project focused on creating faculty development workshops for nursing faculty on how to incorporate active learning strategies into the classroom.

The Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC), of which the AAMC is a member, will hold its next institute virtually on May 23-25. The theme is building interprofessional education for collaborative practice (IPECP), and participants will engage with national leaders in acquiring the building blocks for IPECP. Attendees will spend significant time planning, building, designing, assessing, and acting on their IPECP goals and projects, as well as communicating effectively about IPECP. Regional/National Call for Proposals

2023 ChangeMedEd Innovation Grant Program Request for Applications

The AMA invites medical schools, residency programs and practice settings to apply. In addition to funding, selected institutions will join the AMA ChangeMedEd Consortium. The consortium exists to develop, implement and disseminate bold, innovative projects that promote systemic change in medical education to better train current and future physicians to succeed in our rapidly evolving healthcare system. Selected institutions will receive a one-year $25,000 grant to support novel experiments in precision education while building a community of practice within the AMA ChangeMedEd Consortium. Deadline: June 26, 2023 View the submission guidelines and apply now.

  • Wells Named Inaugural Director of Social Medicine at Larner

    Christa Zehle, M.D., senior associate dean for medical education, has announced the appointment of Katie Wells, M.D., M.P.H., as the inaugural director of social medicine in the Office of Medical Education at the Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont, effective April 3, 2023.

NEGEA 2023 Annual Conference

Medical college educators and learners from 55 Association of American Medical Colleges-affiliated institutions throughout the northeastern U.S. gathered at the University of Vermont April 13-15 for the Northeast Group on Educational Affairs (NEGEA) annual conference. Nearly 300 academic medicine faculty, residents, fellows, and students attended the meeting, where they connected with colleagues, shared innovations, learned about new research, and obtained resources for training the next generation of physicians to advance patient care.

"3 Ways to Turn Your Teaching into Scholarship" with Katie Huggett, PhD
The Clinical Faculty Development Series will cover all the major topics for Medical Education during the Clerkship. This program is available to all teachers, residents, fellows, faculty, and staff (e.g., clerkship coordinators). Each part (101, 201, and 301) consists of one-hour sessions with the curriculum to repeat every 3 years.
