Academic and Clinical Excellence

The Department of Pediatrics at The Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at The University of Vermont, in conjunction with The University of Vermont Children's Hospital, strives to provide the highest quality pediatric care possible while maximizing our educational, research, and advocacy efforts in ways that will make a difference for the children and families we serve. We do this by forming unique and effective partnerships and programs with individuals and communities throughout Vermont, upstate New York, as well as in other parts of our country and the world all focused on improving equitable outcomes in child health.

Faculty and student

Education is a cornerstone of our department and is evident in the key role we play in undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education of those interested in improving the health of children and families. Our department takes a leadership role in curriculum design and faculty development with faculty members helping to direct courses for medical students, as well as participate nationally in various education organizations and innovative projects to enhance educational offerings to residents and practicing pediatric clinicians. Education of the public is also a priority for our department through community programs as well as use of the media to promote children's health.

Pediatrics Faculty

The research efforts of our faculty significantly contribute to the collective knowledge of pediatric health and illness, and access to clinical trials at UVM directly impacts the health of children in Vermont and upstate NY. Research efforts include basic and translational science, as well as clinical, quality improvement, and health services research. Members of the department also oversee or serve as local site leaders for several statewide, national, and international research projects and programs including the Vermont Child Health Improvement Program, the Vermont Oxford Network, Vermont Global Infectious Disease Research, ImproveCare Now, the IDeA States Pediatric Clinical Trials Network (ISPCTN), and the Children’s Oncology Group.
