The Department of Neurology at the University of Vermont applauds your interest in pursuing post graduate training in the Neurosciences.

The Department of Neurology of the University of Vermont’s College of Medicine and the Neurology Health Care Service of Fletcher Allen Health Care (FAHC) offer a fully accredited three-year training program that provides a thorough and broad based clinical neurologic experience for residents as well as several fellowship opportunities. A preliminary year of Internal Medicine is required and can be arranged at the University of Vermont for qualified applicants.

A broad range of investigative opportunities exist during the Neurology residency training program. The clinical and academic environment is extremely supportive and the collegiality of the program is reflected in the warm interactions between residents, staff and faculty. The faculty is committed to clinical neuroscience education as well as clinical and basic neuroscience research. The program is designed to support the development of clinical excellence and to career development in the practice of clinical neurology and academic neuroscience.

The strengths of the Neurology Residency Training Program are the very broad clinical experience, the integration of clinical and basic neurosciences, and the close daily contact between residents and faculty. Resident participation in curriculum development and teaching is stressed throughout all years of training. The program  provides comprehensive experience in all aspects of clinical neurology.

The University and greater Burlington community is an attractive, friendly and safe environment for residents and their families. There is easy access to university programs, community culture and year round activities in the beautiful outdoor environments of Vermont, northern New England, and upstate New York. The international flavor of Montreal is just 90 minutes away and Boston and NYC are easily reached for urban getaways.

Since arriving in Vermont in 2004, I have seen the residency change considerably. We have expanded our program, both in numbers of residents and in educational opportunities available for residents. We have revamped our neuroscience curriculum and continue to explore unique ways to provide excellence in residency education.
