Neurology

The most divine art is that of healing.  And if the healing art is most divine, it must occupy itself with the .. 'brain'.. as well as the body; for no creature can be sound so long as the higher part of it is suffering.

Education

Neurology’s programs and activities cover a range of areas in education, research and clinical care.  The field of neurology is complex, intrinsically interesting, daunting and rapidly changing.  Furthermore, neurological disorders are frequently encountered by the primary care physician and even by specialists in non-neurological fields.  Our department takes its educational role very seriously and is actively working with other members of the neuroscience field at the University of Vermont and Fletcher Allen Health Care to assist in helping to design and implement educational curricula for students, residents and fellows.  We believe strongly in the importance of an integrated curriculum that emphasizes clinically relevant material.

Medical Students

The Department of Neurology is actively involved in medical and graduate student education, and these activities span four years of the curriculum. We support a SIGN (Students Interest Group in Neurology) program and work with students to target careers in the clinical neurosciences, including research opportunities for summer or ‘year-out’ students.

Graduate Students

Department faculty are actively involved in didactic lectures and seminars, laboratory rotations and serve as mentors for graduate students in Neuroscience at the University of Vermont.

Residency

The Department directs postgraduate medical education in neurology for residents in neurology, neurosurgery, psychiatry and primary care.

Fellowships

Postgraduate training in the clinical and basic neurosciences include: Clinical Neurophysiology, Neuromuscular Disease, Clinical Trials, and Laboratory Neuroscience- focusing on translational research and animal models of neurological diseases.
