Schmidt and Carson Take on NMGI Active Learning Challenge
All fourth-year students have a teaching and scholarly project requirement, but students Liz Carson ‘19 (shown teaching, left) and Eric Schmidt '18 are adding in a more complex layer – they’re transforming formerly lecture-based material into active learning curriculum – and helping the College reach its goal of 100 percent active learning in the process. Schmidt is currently a TA for the Nutrition, Metabolism, and the Gastrointestinal System (NMGI) course and Carson is finishing up a one-year Pathology Medical Student Fellowship. They’re collaborating with NMGI Course Director Rebecca Wilcox, M.D., and Professor of Medicine Steven Lidofsky, M.D., Ph.D., whose lectures are the source of the material, to create the new active learning sessions.
