Public Health ProjectsPublic Health Projects Address Challenging Issues Like Suicide Prevention & Opioid Prescribing

Members of the Class of 2020 displayed their public health project findings at a poster session and celebration attended by community agency representatives, faculty, staff and students in the Hoehl Gallery on January 18. Partners for this year’s 17 projects included Community Health Centers of Burlington, American Lung Association, Vermont Department of Health, American Red Cross and UVM Medical Center's Community Health Improvement program. “These public health issues are also national priorities, and our students' projects contribute to broader knowledge of community engagement, advocacy, and scholarship in public health,” says Associate Dean for Public Health Jan Carney, M.D., M.P.H. Read more about the projects. 


Diversity and Inclusion LogoOffice of Diversity & Inclusion to Move to Community-Friendly Space

New digs are in store for the Office of Diversity & Inclusion – a larger facility in Given D201 that will accommodate not only the office’s growth in staff, but also a place for students, faculty, staff and affiliates interested in issues of diversity, inclusion and cultural competency in medicine to gather. The new office will feature meeting space for 8 with audio-visual technology, diversity educational resources and library, quiet study space, a soft seating area and a kitchenette. Student Interest Group RepsCongratulations New SEG Leaders

The Student Education Group or SEG, is a student leadership group comprised of four representatives from each class year at the Larner College of Medicine. Elected by their classmates, the representatives act as liaisons between the student body and faculty to "bring pertinent educational issues to the attention of faculty and course directors." Joining the SEG this year are, Sidney Hilker, Flora Liu, Sienna Searles, and Audrea Bose from the Class of 2021.

SIG Leadership TrainingsSIG Highlight: New Leaders

This week, Student Interest Group (SIG) leaders in the Class of 2020 are passing the baton to their counterparts in the Class of 2021 as they prepare to start clinical clerkships. To ready the new leaders for their role, the Student Council held a mandatory SIG leadership training on Tuesday, January 16 led by Davina Tolbert '21. The training included presentations by Evan Lowry '21, COMAV’s Pamela James, and Student Services Coordinator Kiersten Hallquist on helpful topics, such as budgeting, use of the Commons for documentation, required event forms and more. A follow-up training for those unable to attend the first session is scheduled for Tuesday, January 30 from 12:10 pm - 12:50 pm in Med Ed 300. View the list of new leaders >>
