(APRIL 10, 2024) Kae Ravichandran, Larner Class of 2025, spoke with NBC5 about gearing up for another run at glory in this year’s Boston Marathon on April 15. Ravichandran won last year with a time of 2:39:06—in the race’s first-ever nonbinary division.

“People were really happy that I was able to represent Vermont and the Larner College of Medicine on that stage,” Ravichandran said.

This year’s registration in the nonbinary division has doubled, according to the Boston Athletic Association. “It’s going to be a lot more competitive this year which I’m super, super excited about,” said Ravichandran.

While there is no prize pool for the winners in the nonbinary division of the Boston Marathon, for runners like Ravichandran, being able to run as themselves is a victory in its own right.

“Before, Boston was so binary—and just, like, having that opportunity for you to represent yourself is absolutely amazing,” said Ravichandran.
