Richard L. Page, M.D., dean of the Robert Larner, M.D., College of Medicine, has been elected to the administrative board of the Council of Deans (COD) by the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC). Dean Page’s election emphasizes the Larner College of Medicine’s dedication to advancing academic medicine and underscores the College’s commitment to excellence.
The Council of Deans connects deans from AAMC member medical schools across the United States and Canada to address critical issues in academic medicine and develop strategies for improving medical education, research, and patient care.
The COD comprises the deans of all 156 U.S. LCME (Liaison Committee on Medical Education)-accredited medical schools and 14 Canadian affiliate members. The administrative board, on which Dean Page now serves, includes three officers, nine members serving three-year terms, and three at-large members serving one-year terms. Together, they drive the AAMC’s advocacy efforts, enhance institutional management practices, and champion the leadership roles of deans.
Founded in 1876 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., the AAMC is a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming health through medical education, health care, research, and community engagement. It serves as the voice of medical schools, teaching hospitals, academic societies, and scientific organizations and offers services to member institutions, including data analytics, consulting, and the administration of critical examinations, such as the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). The AAMC represents 148,000 faculty members, 115,000 resident physicians, and 83,000 medical students.
In addition to its role in medical education, the AAMC co-sponsors the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), alongside the American Medical Association (AMA), the accrediting body for all U.S. M.D.–granting medical education programs.
