The American Cancer Society awards research grants and fellowships to promising scientists early in their careers who have unique hypotheses for cancer prevention and study, fostering the next generation of cancer research and creating a strong foundation of preliminary evidence to make scientific advancements. The Society also sponsors grants that support training for health professionals seeking to develop their clinical expertise and/or their ability to conduct independent research.
Workshop objectives:
• Provide overview of American Cancer Society funded grants and research
• Provide “Insider Tips” for a successful application process
• Understand how grants will be evaluated
• Understand success rates in future funding
• Understand online resources
Dr. Susanna Greer joined the American Cancer Society (ACS) as Director of Clinical Cancer Research, Nutrition, and Immunology in 2015. In this capacity, Dr. Greer speaks to donors, volunteers, and researchers on behalf of the ACS; directs scientific review and strategic planning; oversees outreach activities of ACS grantees; and collaborates with the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), to enhance scientific advocacy for cancer research.
Dr. Nicole Lopanik recently joined the American Cancer Society (ACS) as a Program Manager for Extramural Research, Nicole Lopanik is responsible for organizing the Peer Review process for Extramural Research grant applications in the Biochemistry and Immunology of Cancer Program. She also manages a large portfolio of grants, and constituent relationships with grantees, scientific volunteers, and stakeholders. She works with the dedicated staff in the Extramural Discovery Sciences department to help researchers realize their innovative ideas.
