Vermont Self-Determination Project

What is Self-Determination? Self-determination means many things to many different people. In general, it is people having the freedom to make choices and exercise control over their own life. This is a journey we all start at birth. In the past, people with disabilities had little or no opportunity to plan their future. Now, with the support of the people you care about, you decide how to live your life including how to spend your support moneys (Medicaid waiver funds, respite funds, etc.) This includes hiring the people who support you. The Self-Determination Project consists of people who are here to listen; will meet with you at your convenience; can help you become a more informed citizen; can help you figure out how to spend your time, hire your own staff, and direct your support moneys; and will provide information so you can make your own informed decisions. The project serves all people, of all ages, who are eligible for supports through the Vermont Division of Developmental Services. For more information call: 1-888-268-4860. The call is free.
