Cancer Center Holds Juckett Lecture and 2nd Annual Men’s Health & Cancer Conference

The University of Vermont Cancer Center presented two events at the College of Medicine on June 23 and June 24 to highlight important research and information relating to men’s health and cancer.

The University of Vermont Cancer Center presented two events at the College of Medicine on June 23 and June 24 to highlight important research and information relating to men’s health and cancer.

On Thursday, June 23, 2016 at noon, Christopher Logothetis, M.D., Roy M. and Phyllis Gough Huffington Clinical Research in Urologic Oncology Distinguished Chair in the Department of Genitourinary Medical Oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, presented a J. Walter Juckett Distinguished Lecture. Logothetis talk focused on “Transitioning from a Prognostic to a Predictive Model of Therapy Allocation in Prostate Cancer.”

On Friday, June 24, 2016, the UVM Cancer Center presented the 2nd Annual Men’s Health and Cancer Conference from 8 a.m. to noon in the Sullivan Classroom. The event will feature lectures and breakout sessions focused on the prevention, detection, treatment, and survivorship of cancers affecting men, as well as important wellness topics related to men's health and cancer.

Topics and UVM faculty presenters included:

  • “Prostate Cancer: A Guide to Prevention, Survival, and Empowerment” by Scott Perrapato, D.O., Associate Professor of Surgery;
  • “Male Hormones and the Aging Process” by Peter Holoch, M.D., Assistant Professor of Surgery;
  • “Genomics and Personalized Medicine” by Nikoletta Sidiropoulos, M.D., Assistant Professor of Pathology;
  • “Nutrition, Exercise, and Cancer” by Jean Harvey, Ph.D., R.D., Professor and Chair, Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences; and
  • “Skin Cancer: Not Just a Summertime Disease” by Christopher Anker, M.D., Assistant Professor of Medicine.
