More than 90 primary care clinicians and other healthcare professionals in the community came together for the 12th Annual Child Psychiatry in Primary Care Conference on Friday, May 4 at the Hampton Inn in Colchester, Vt.

This year's conference provided not only engaging topics and speakers, but also the foundation for community providers to be able to design a multi-modal treatment plan for youth with anxiety disorders based on scientific evidence, describe current research findings about the impact of smartphones on mental health, and/or be able to discuss with an adolescent the known risk factors for early cannabis use.

The conference, praised for its quality and usefulness, included updated knowledge on issues related to mental health with the "energizing and inspiring" talk “What’s Hot in Child Psychiatry” from UVM Professor of Psychiatry, Pediatrics and Medicine James Hudziak, MD.

Other timely topics included cannabis in the age of legalization, the promise and perils of smartphones, and developing and maintaining wellness plans.

The conference, which exceeded attendee expectations, is returning in 2019. Stay tuned for more information!
