Overview

The Neurology for the Non-Neurologist conference is designed to offer the most up-to-date information for primary care providers as they are often the first health care professionals to encounter a neurological problem. The conference is designed to teach the non-neurologist how to diagnose common neurological disorders, order appropriate diagnostic studies and provide a guide for therapy and appropriate patient care.

Primary care physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and other medical professionals with an interest in neurology are encouraged to attend.

Objectives

At the conclusion of this conference, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize key issues in caring for women with neurological conditions.
  • Identify diagnosis and treatment strategies for neuro/cardiogenic syncope.
  • Determine diagnostic criteria for neuro-infectious disorders in the primary care setting.
  • Describe key factors in the evaluation and treatment of pediatric epilepsy.
  • Identify chronic headache conditions and determine appropriate treatments.
  • Discuss important issues in caring for the child with cerebral palsy.
  • Describe cognitive and brain changes that may predict risk for dementia.

Accreditation

The University of Vermont College of Medicine is accredited by the American Nurses Credential Center (ANCC), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

The University of Vermont designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.5 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. 

This Live activity, Neurology for the Non-Neurologist 2016, with a beginning date of 10/28/2016, has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 6.50 Prescribed credits by the American Academy of Family Physicians.
