Overview

The Center on Aging at The University of Vermont (UVM) is pleased to present the 2017 Gerontology Symposium. The goal of the symposium is to provide current, research-based information on topics relevant to the broad range of health and service providers who work with Vermont’s older adults.

Our theme for 2017 is Reframing Aging. The keynote, “Poised for Possibility: Engaging New Voices Around Aging,” will be delivered by Joann M. Montepare, Ph.D., Director of the RoseMary B. Fuss Center for Research on Aging and Intergenerational Studies at Lasell College.

Educational Objectives

This conference is designed to enable participants to gain knowledge pertaining to key areas of aging. The symposium also seeks to help participants to become more comfortable and competent in discussing end of life care.

  • Articulate new, research-supported approaches to framing or talking about aging.
  • Increase comfort level with talking about end of life care; describe resources available to help plan for future care needs
  • Discover growth-enhancing ways to envision aging.
  • Describe new approaches to hiring and retaining the mature worker in Vermont.

Accreditation

In support of improving patient care, The Robert Larner M.D. College of Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

This program has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 6.75 Nursing Contact Hours.

Credit has been approved for Social Work and Nursing Home Administrators.

The conference syllabus will only be available as an electronic download with presentations as PDF files. Please bring your laptop or other device to view presentations as well as to complete the electronic conference evaluations. You will receive a notification via email prior to the conference start date with instructions for accessing the presentations. Printed syllabus, paper evaluations and paper CME certificates will no longer be available.
