July 2009
Dear UVM Medical Student Preceptor,
We are very grateful to you and the many Vermont physicians who volunteer to precept University of Vermont College of Medicine students. The Preceptor Recognition Program that we administer is intended as an expression of our thanks for all that you do. In appreciation for your work with UVM medical students, vouchers are issued to be used toward UVM or non-UVM continuing medical education (CME) courses. Please note that due to budget limitations, this program is exclusively for CME courses only and travel, lodging, food, books, journals, subscriptions and other resource materials are not included. Community preceptors/non-salaried UVM medical faculty members are eligible for this program (salaried UVM faculty are not eligible).
A record of the number and dollar amount of vouchers earned is mailed two times a year, typically during the months of January and July. Vouchers remain valid for two years. The expiration date and other parameters guiding this program are largely because we have limited funds and cannot afford to incur unlimited financial liability. To redeem vouchers for University of Vermont CME courses, simply enclose the voucher numbers to be redeemed with your registration and send it to the UVM CME office. To redeem vouchers for all other CME courses which are not sponsored by the University of Vermont, please send a copy of your registration, proof of payment, your home address, and social security number, along with the certificate numbers you wish to redeem, to Rebecca T. Dubois, UVM AHEC Program Office, 1 So. Prospect Street, UHC Campus/Arnold 5, Burlington, VT 05401. Reimbursement will be issued after the course is completed.
Redemption of these vouchers is considered non-employee compensation for services delivered and may be taxable. If the dollar value meets or exceeds $600 in a calendar year, the University of Vermont is required to issue a 1099 Form. Please consult your tax advisor if you have any questions.
We also wish to remind all community preceptors that you are eligible to claim AMA category II credits or AAFP “elective” CME credits (up to 20 hours per year) for your teaching of medical students. Self-report of these hours is usually sufficient but we are happy to provide written verification at your request.
The UVM College of Medicine Preceptor Recognition Program is an effort to thank you for your participation in teaching our students. Please contact us at 656-2658 if you have any questions about your account or the program in general.
Sincerely,
| Charles D. MacLean, MD |
