Medicine

The practice of medicine is an art, not a trade, a calling, not a business, a calling in which your heart will be exercised equally with your head.

About Us

The faculty of the Department of Medicine is engaged in a wide range of clinical, educational and research activities. Our clinical missions are to deliver the highest quality, tertiary care in the various subspecialties of internal medicine to patients in our region, which includes both the State of Vermont and a large portion of northern New York State; and to deliver the highest quality primary care to patients in the greater Burlington area.

Educational activities include instruction of medical students, Internal Medicine Residents and subspecialty Fellows in the prevention, pathophysiology and management of diseases encompassed within the broad spectrum of Internal Medicine and its subspecialties. The faculty is also extensively engaged in post-graduate education programs both on and off-campus.

Research programs range from clinical and basic research in human subjects to molecular biology studies in cultured cells. Many of these research programs are linked to basic science divisions in molecular biology, biochemistry, and physiology. The College of Medicine has NIH-funded Cancer, Clinical Research, and Obesity and Nutrition Research Centers. The Department of Medicine includes some of the most productive researchers in the College.
